We have to reconsider simply choosing a school based on its name or perceived reputation. We are not in the 1980s when we could pay $1600 a year for UCLA, walk out with a piece of paper, and expect that will get us hired and placed securely in a cubicle. Once our students engage with their passions and choose a pathway forward, we help the student find colleges with PROGRAMS that will best serve them. If our student is interested in Kinesiology, then we curate 6-year programs that have her earning a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. We make sure students consider research opportunities, paid co-ops, internships, international programs and other aspects of a college beyond its pretty uniforms or its proximity to the beach. Students and parents must be thoughtful or end up with a piece of paper and generational debt.
